The transformation of agri-food systems is increasingly recognized as a key driver for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Following the United Nations Food Systems Summit (UNFSS) and the UNFSS+2 Stocktaking Moment in 2023, the Europe and Central Asia region has witnessed a significant shift – from raising awareness to the practical application of a systemic approach in shaping sustainable agri-food systems that are economically viable, socially inclusive, and environmentally responsible.
The objective of the project is to support Bosnia and Herzegovina in strengthening cross-sectoral and cross-institutional capacities for the transformation of agri-food systems, through improved governance, knowledge generation, and exchange of experiences among stakeholders. The project focuses on enhancing the practical knowledge of representatives of relevant institutions – particularly in the sectors of agriculture, trade, environment, climate change, health, and nutrition – in order to strengthen systemic understanding of the complexity of agri-food policies and the interdependencies between sectors.
By applying a systemic approach and building capacities, the project aims to improve policy coherence and understanding of trade-offs between different development objectives, thereby contributing to balanced progress in areas such as nutrition, income equality and employment, natural resource management, social inclusion, and system resilience.

Key activities
• Conducting assessments of agri-food systems in targeted municipalities through analysis of vulnerability, resilience, and food accessibility, and preparing concise reports with recommendations.
• Field consultations with local stakeholders – institutions, farmers, and the private sector – on priorities in transforming food and environmental policies.
• Organizing workshops and consultations on integrating food system resilience, climate adaptation, biodiversity protection, and pollution control into local planning.
• Preparing and validating reports through participatory methods, facilitating dialogue on policy coherence and cross-sectoral synergies in development strategies.
