The project is directly linked to the measures outlined in the City of Sarajevo’s Action Plan concerning the prevention and reduction of food waste and food loss – specifically to the measure promoting a food waste prevention plan among all actors in the food supply chain. The City of Sarajevo’s Plan recognizes the need to reduce food waste as a key strategy for environmental protection, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and improvement of citizens’ quality of life. The Plan’s measures include education, awareness-raising, implementation of new technologies, and the creation of sustainable waste management practices, which form the basis for the activities planned within the “Green Circle” project.
Through a series of activities -including the development of educational programs, organization of workshops and lectures focused on new technologies for better utilization of biowaste, creation of promotional materials, and implementation of media campaigns – the project will primarily enable preschool and school-age children, as well as citizens, to understand the importance of reducing food waste and adopt concrete steps for proper biowaste management.
